A simla rahgir
If a man says he does not fear death then either he is lying or else he is a Gorkha.-- Sam Manekshaw

Central to Ram Gopal Verma's Sarkar Raaj are plans for the construction of a 20k cr power plant that will light up the whole of Maharastra. As far as I cud tell, the plot of this headache-inducing film goes as follows: various badfellas in Gujrat don't like the fact that Maharastra wil be lit up. So lots of ppl r killed. Then some more ppl r killed. Then Aishwarya Rai, in a sharp business woman suit, chews her lip and cries silently. Then some more ppl r killed. Then Rai asks for a cup of tea and the film ends. At this point , after many complicated plot twists and lots of murderous double crossing, the power plant has still not been built. I am going to go on a limb and suggest that this is the reason why the film is so unremittingly dark. Obviously wid this ending Mr RGV is ready wid his third film.

I shd clarify that by 'dark', I'm nt talkin abt the subject matter: I mean that the film is quite literally, dark. In other words, there appear to be no electricity sources in the house whr most of the action takes place. Not even a tubelight or ceiling fan in sight!

The Kite Runner

I got through the movie once again albeit only in quick flashes... u wud like the movie if u r of tht type... but the closing frame is brilliant... enduring the unendurable nd still coming triumphs... vanquishing the burden of the past .... looking forward to eternal freedom... thts been the story of this incredible nation Afghanistan

Amir:
Do you like the kite?
Did I ever tell you your father was the best kite runner in all of Kabul?
He'd run the kites and never look up at the sky once. Some claimed he was just chasing the kite's shadow. But they didn't knew him like I did. He wasn't chasing shadows. He just knew!

Do you want me to run that kite for you?

Sohrab slowly begins to interact with Amir, who enthusiastically runs the kite, saying to Sohrab what Hassan used to say to Amir in the past: "For you, a thousand times over."

I hope I get the time to read the novel too in watever summers I have got left. Reviews say the second work of Hosseini 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' is grt too.

Inspite of sabke itna mana karne ke baad bhi dad's gonna cook the dinner tonite... he is such a darling :-* :-*... but dad's idea of a sumptuous dinner vastly differs from me, all of us in the family for that matter... ginger is his fav fruit/ vegetable ahh watever the damn thing is.. so every dish dad prepares reduces into a gingerly gastronomical expedition... argument given: beta its really healthy na... ohh really dad!!!... is that so... and wat if we die in the process of tryin to eat it?... chalo waise aj toh nahi bach sakte... sunday barbaad :(

A dishevelled friend, belonging to the cricket oblivious breed, having spent a few years abroad on phone :
"... yaar all the two months entirely passed by me... You mean Shane Warne is playimg for Jaipur- how's that possible? Didn't he retire a few months ago? Does Preity Zinta bat or ball? Is this a unisex tornament?...."

Wat a beauty!

So the much speculated first season of IPL has finally ended and the meteoric rise of adrenaline each evening... yeah that's an overstatement... is not gonna thr ny more. But I was in for a shock in the final ceremony. I never really gave attention to wat the winner's trophy looks like. Finally when Arun Lal said "2000 sumthin diamonds weighing 70 sumthin carats, 4000 sth sapphires weighing 1000 sth carats"... nd so on. The PR prose clearly didnt make the IPL trophy prettier... wat they r gonna to do nxt.. put jewellery on Abhishek Bachchan nd call him beautiful. (m gonna be on Big B's blog nxt he he) The trophy looked like ..... The hideous entity has a cardboard-cut-out-type of map of India with letters 'IPL' cut and pasted by someone whose idea of award winning design is a dhaba sign on way to Bhatinda. (sorry to secular sensivities ;) Jutting out in front is a figure of a swishing batsmen ... who cannt be judged whether he is a left or right hander. I am told he is a replica of Sunil Manohar Gavaskar. And to cap this monstrosity, thr's a black gatta kind of background with chief sponsor's logo displayed prominently. Even the Godfather of bling, Bappi Lahiri wud quitely tuck this away in his bathroom commode. If Lalit Modi wants it, I can give my kabbadi champion's plaque for the nxt year's tournament but kindly from this kind of faux pas in future
